Biography

Sisi Chen is the Director of the Single-cell Profiling and Engineering Center, funded by the Beckman Institute.

Her research is focused on technology development for using single-cell profiling measurements as a foundation for cell engineering and therapeutic development. Most recently she has developed a computational platform to analyze single-cell data at large-scale (PopAlign), and has used this platform to explore human immune cell responses to hundreds of small molecule immunomodulatory compounds and determine their cell-type specific effects. She is also applying these tools to dissect how signals and their combinations impact heterogeneous cell populations, in both the immune system and developing brain.

She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering at MIT, and her Ph.D. in Bioengineering at UC-Berkeley, where she worked on microfluidic technologies for measuring and manipulating single cells.
