Join us on April 25-26 in Veldhoven, NL, for the VIB Seminar 2024 — an insightful two-day exploration into the frontiers of computational biology, AI, mental health, and sustainability.

Day 1 kicks off with a welcome by VIB management and a dynamic plenary session with speakers who will introduce the future of computational biology and AI, as well as the importance of mental health in a demanding professional environment. Keynotes by Anna Kreshuk (EMBL) and others will be followed by a ChatGPT exploration with Walter Daelemans (UA). Later, PilipiliGames brings a fun, sustainability-focused teambuilding experience. Then, after dinner, a lively party will conclude a packed first day.

On Day 2, you can choose between a scientific track with tandem talks on computational biology or a non-scientific track that will cover sustainability, disconnection workshops, and science communication during the parallel program. The plenary program introduces new PIs, invites VIB scientists on the stage, and a closing session that looks toward the future. Additional highlights include speed date sessions for postdoc/PhD networking during lunch and dedicated meeting spaces accessible via our app for focused discussions.

Bus transport
The VIB Seminar will start on the bus! So we would like to encourage all participants to choose a pick up location below in the registration form. . The program ends at 14h00 on Friday April 26th, you will automatically get a seat on the same bus back.

Parallel session 2: Unplug to re-connect - Beyond the digital detox
Location: Gender hall

The 'always-on(line) culture' of remote working combined with our 'novelty-seeking brain' make it harder to truly disconnect from work. In this keynote therefore, we discover the 3 forms of disconnection (digital, psychological and emotional) that help you focus (during work) and mentally disconnect from work (outside work).

Parallel session 3: Using communication to improve your scientific career
Location: Baronie hall

Are you a scientist looking to advance your career through effective communication? If so, join us for an enlightening session where we'll explore the art of scientific writing, discuss how to create compelling elevator pitches, and share valuable tips on how to distribute your research. You'll also have the opportunity to hear from other researchers who have successfully used science communication to advance their own careers. Discover the potential of communication in the scientific community!

Best practices on reducing consumables and energy consumption
Did you know that every VIB center has an eco team? Over the past months they have been exchanging best practices over several sustainability topics, relevant to the laboratory envi-ronment. At this session two of our eco teams will be presenting their work on reducing lab consumables and energy consumption. There will be time for questions and debate after-wards.
