Save the date for Research Software Engineers Day

16 September 2024

We’re pleased to invite you to the Research Software Engineers Day, which will take place on 6 December 2024 in Brussels.

The significant promise of software is to make the impossible possible, to make our lives easier, and to automate the tedious and error-prone. Modern scientific research relies on these properties of software and the talent, skill, and dedication of software developers. But all too often, research software and its developers are hidden behind the science they make possible.

The Belgium Research Software Engineers community aims to foster a community of research software developers and to collectively improve the standard of software used for scientific research.

During RSEng24, you can gather with other research software engineers to share your vast collective experience. Join the community for an exciting day of talks and workshops to discuss the challenges you face and the bugs you chase!

The following speakers were invited to present their work and insights:

  • Jochem Claes, Education & Research Lead, Microsoft Belux, BE
  • Marine Guyot, CodingResearcher, FR
  • Simon Hettrick, Software Sustainability Institute, UK
  • Robert Speck, Forschungszentrum Jülich, DE
  • Claire Wyatt, Forschungszentrum Jülich, DE

Upcoming deadlines

  • Abstract deadline: 25 October
  • Early Bird deadline: 8 November

Workshops on AI Coding Assistants and LLM

Preceding The Research Software Engineers Day, a hands-on workshop will occur on 5 December. These workshops dive into the world of AI. You can choose to learn how to best use genAI for coding or how to use local LLMs to run your analysis in the HPC.

Tickets to the workshops can only be purchased in addition to a ticket for the RSE day.
