VIBes in Biosciences 2020: Science, fun, and heaps of networking

25 November 2019

On 11-13 March 2020, the 6th edition of VIBes in Biosciences is taking place in Leuven!

The VIBes in Biosciences PhD conference is organized by motivated PhD students from VIB. The aim is to bring together young and ambitious graduate students from all over the world and give them the opportunity to listen and network with top-quality international scientists, providing unique training activities and a chance to present their work.

The conference is planned to be as broad as possible, encompassing almost all fields of life sciences. The students will certainly listen to top scientists in their research field, but researchers also have a natural curiosity to glance over fields that they do not directly work in. In fact, many discoveries were done by looking over the hedge! VIBes is the perfect occasion to get out of the lab and get inspired by top notch speakers from various disciplines such as immunology, plant biology, cancer biology, structural biology, neuroscience, microbiology and so on.

A few (big) names who will be present are as follows:

  • Paul Nurse, The Francis Crick Institute, UK
  • Madeline Lancaster, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, UK
  • Antonio Lanzavecchia, IRB, CH
  • Helene Steiner, Cell-Free Technology, Open Cell, UK

and many more!

Moreover, the symposium is preceded by half a day of workshops that the attendees can choose from. Workshops to improve communication to a non-science audience, building confidence on stage, and better visualization and presentation of data are planned. Apart from that one can also go for workshops on possible career opportunities in and outside academia, insights into the future of science etc. Internationally renowned trainers are invited to share their experience and knowledge with the participants.

There will be plenty of networking opportunities and social activities, including a visit to the wonderful city of Leuven and a great final party!

Participants can also submit an abstract for a poster and/or oral presentation before Thursday, 16 January, 2020.
The Early Bird deadline is 29 January.
