Achille Broggi
Dr. Achille Broggi is a group leader at the Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy (CIML), where he investigates the role of interferon responses in regulating mucosal biology, with a focus on the intestinal mucosal barrier. His research aims to uncover immune pathways that balance host defense and tissue homeostasis, offering insights into inflammatory and infectious diseases.
Dr. Broggi earned his PhD in Translational Medicine in 2012 at the University of Milan-Bicocca, where he studied peripheral T cell tolerance and the transcription factor NFAT in phagocytes. In 2015, he joined Ivan Zanoni's lab at Boston Children's Hospital as a research fellow, discovering that interferon lambda (IFN-λ) inhibits neutrophil activation to protect mucosal barriers during intestinal inflammation. Later he identified that IFN-λ can impair respiratory tissue repair after acute viral pneumonia.
Since joining CIML in 2021, Dr. Broggi has focused on defining the mechanisms by which interferons regulate intestinal mucosal integrity. His work bridges fundamental and translational immunology, contributing to the development of therapeutic strategies targeting mucosal immunity and inflammatory diseases.
