Ali Ertürk

Prof. Dr. Ali Maximilian Ertürk is Director of the Institute for Intelligent Biotechnologies (iBIO) at Helmholtz Munich, Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), and founder and CEO of Deep Piction. He studied molecular biology and genetics at Bilkent University, completed his PhD at LMU Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, and conducted postdoctoral research at Genentech in South San Francisco.

His laboratory combines tissue clearing, light-sheet microscopy, spatial omics and artificial intelligence to investigate disease across intact organs and entire organisms at cellular resolution. The team pioneered the DISCO family of tissue-clearing methods and developed tools including DISCO-MS, MouseMapper and SCP-Nano to connect three-dimensional anatomy with molecular changes, immune responses and therapeutic biodistribution.

Ertürk’s neuroscience research investigates interactions between the brain, its borders and the peripheral immune system, with particular interests in skull bone marrow, neuroinflammation and the neurological consequences of COVID-19. Through his academic research and Deep Piction, he aims to translate high-resolution maps of disease into new therapeutic strategies and more precise drug delivery.
