Asli Ayaz
Asli Ayaz has been a research scientist at VIB and Neuro-Elecetronics Research Flanders (NERF)since 2019. Since Jan 2024, she has taken on the expert neuroimaging scientist role within the In Vivo Neurophysiology Expertise Unit. She has obtained her PhD degree in Neurobiology from University of California Irvine. Her past research experience extends to both the visual and somatosensory systems and computational approaches. As a postdoctoral researcher at University College London (UCL) and University of Zurich, she demonstrated principles of sensorimotor integration in visual cortex neurons (Ayaz et al., 2013, Current Biol, Saleem et al., 2013, Nat Neuro) and across layers of somatosensory cortex (Ayaz et al., 2019, Nat Comm), respectively. Most recently, she was awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (2021) to study large-scale circuit mechanisms of multisensory information selection. She has extensive experience in state-of-the-art in vivo imaging and neural recording techniques, behavioral approaches and computational skills that are vital for the in-vivo characterization of network dynamics. She aspires to disseminate in-vivo neural circuit manipulation and neural recording approaches to the non-expert scientific community and facilitate deciphering circuit function anomalies in in vivo models of brain disorders.
