Bettina Weigelin

University of Tübingen, DE
Biography

Bettina Weigelin currently holds a professorship in Preclinical Imaging of the Immune System at the Werner Siemens Imaging Center, Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy at the University of Tübingen, Germany. In 2015, she obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences from the Radboud University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, where she applied intravital multiphoton imaging to study cancer invasion and immune function in solid tumors. In 2016 she received a Rubicon Young Investigator Award (NWO) which allowed her to move to the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), Houston, TX, USA, as junior faculty (research instructor), where she further developed her expertise towards immunological monitoring and immunotherapy of prostate cancer lesions in bone, a critical clinical challenge. In 2019, she accepted a Junior Research Group position at the Werner Siemens Imaging Center at the University of Tübingen, Germany and in 2021 received a call for a professorship for ‘Preclinical Imaging of the Immune System’ from the University of Tübingen. Her research group ‘Multiscale Immunoimaging’ combines advanced microscopic techniques with state-of-the art macroscopic imaging to gain mechanistic insight in adoptive T cell therapies at the cellular and whole-body scale, to identify strategies for improved cancer immunotherapies.
