Caroline Demangel
Pr. Caroline Demangel obtained a Masters degree in biochemistry and a PhD from the Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon. After a first post-doctorate on antibody engineering at the Institut Pasteur, she developed at the Centenary Institute (Sydney, Australia) novel vaccinal approaches using antibodies to target tuberculosis antigens to dendritic cells. In 2002, she returned to the Institut Pasteur to begin research into the pathogenesis of two neglected mycobacterial diseases, Buruli ulcer and Leprosy. Since 2011, she has headed a research unit in the Immunology Department focusing on the interactions between pathogenic mycobacteria and their host cells. Her group studies mechanisms of immune evasion, with a view to identifying new ways of modulating inflammation and immunity, and exploiting them for therapeutic purposes.
