Christoph Schneider

University of Zürich, CH
Biography

Christoph Schneider is an Associate Professor at the University of Zurich. He was awarded the Peter Hans Hofschneider Professorship of Molecular Medicine and is supported by an SNSF Eccellenza Grant. His research centers on the interactions between innate tissue-resident immune cells and non-immune cells within their respective tissue niches, with a particular focus on the lung and the intestine. His group aims to understand how these interactions shape organ physiology during fetal development and contribute to tissue homeostasis and type 2 immune responses in adulthood.

Christoph earned his PhD in 2013 from ETH Zurich, where he studied alveolar macrophage biology in the laboratory of Manfred Kopf. He then joined the laboratory of Richard Locksley at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) as a postdoctoral fellow, investigating the ontogeny of group 2 innate lymphoid cells

(ILC2s) and their interactions with small intestinal tuft cells.

Since 2019, Christoph has led a research team at the University of Zurich, investigating the roles of tuft cells in intestinal type 2 immunity and the crosstalk between myeloid cells and the epithelium in the lung. His lab employs a combination of in vivo models and advanced in vitro systems to dissect these cellular communication networks.
