Biography

After my graduation as a licenced Pharmacist 2012 I have conducted an academic career route focusing on the mucus defence systems in the intestine and airways. I undertook my PhD in the Mucin Biology Groups cluster at University of Gothenburg under the supervision of Associate Professor Malin Johansson and Professor Gunnar C. Hansson. I performed biochemical and functional characterization of the protein CLCA1 in the intestinal mucus. During my first postdoctoral year with I stayed at the Mucin biology groups but moved focus to the airways to analyse mucin and mucus barrier function in a mouse model of COPD.

Since 2020 I have a self-funded postdoctoral position, shared between Kiel University and University of Gothenburg, during which I am developing my knowledge regarding the role of proteolytic alterations in intestinal mucus in health and disease.

In both my doctoral and postdoctoral work I have been extensively involved in the development of methods for studying mucus, mucins and mucus producing goblet cells in vitro and in vivo but I also have extensive experience in a very wide range of methods, spanning investigation at molecular level, cell function to whole tissue physiology.
