Biography

Elizabeth Hartland is the Director and CEO of Hudson Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne and Head of the Department of Molecular and Translational Science at Monash University. She is a leading Australian microbiologist with a research interest in the innate immune response to infection and microbial evasion of cell intrinsic immunity. She is an honorary Distinguished Professor of Hokkaido University, Japan, past President of the Australian Association of Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) and member of the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC). In 2024, Professor Hartland was a recipient of the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King's Birthday Honours list and elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. In 2026, she was appointed to the Human Frontier Science Program Council of Scientists representing Australia.
