Isabell Klawonn

Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research, DE
Biography

Dr Klawonn obtained her PhD in Marine Ecology in 2015 at Stockholm University, Sweden. After two postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford University (USA) and at the Institute for Freshwater Research and Inland Fisheries, IGB (Berlin, Germany), she became Junior Research Group Leader (Emmy Noether Fellow) in 2020 at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW), Germany. Isabell’s lab studies the linkage between microbial activities and biogeochemical cycles in the pelagic zone of brackish and marine habitats, with a main focus on aquatic fungi. Using a variety of observational and experimental approaches, her ultimate aim is to link microbial identity with their activity and function in the pelagic zone.
