Jennifer Baltazar

Biography

Jennifer Baltazar’s research interest focuses on how the proteomic diversity at synapses contributes to the function of neuronal circuits. She is a PhD student at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, working in the laboratory of Prof. Peter Scheiffele under co-supervision of Dr. Marc van Oostrum. She applies mass spectrometry-based proteomics to map the proteome composition at specific types of synapses in the mouse brain and developed an in vivo labeling and fluorescence-activated sorting strategy to isolate and analyze synapses defined by both their pre- and postsynaptic neuronal populations. Jennifer holds a Master’s degree from the University of Heidelberg, where she studied the effects of autism-related mutations in synaptic proteins. For her thesis, she conducted research at UCSF in the lab of Prof. Arnold Kriegstein, focusing on the formation of neuronal circuits in human cerebral organoids.
