Biography

John Fahy received his MD from University College Dublin in 1989 and a Masters degree in molecular medicine from Trinity College Dublin in 2003. He completed fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of California San Francisco where he is currently a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He directs a mechanism oriented clinical research program in airway disease that has three areas of focus: (i) mechanisms by which airway epithelial cells contribute to abnormal type 2 immune responses in the airway; (ii) mechanisms of formation of pathologic mucus gels in the airway; (iii) identification of biologically defined subgroups (endotypes) of asthma. His program is human centered and has the overarching goal to help develop novel therapeutics and biomarkers for asthma and other airway diseases, including mucolytic treatments and treatments that are patient specific.
