Biography

Julia Fernandez-Rodriguez, PhD., graduated (1989) in Biology from the University Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and received her PhD (1996) in Biochemistry from the University of Vigo (Spain). Main scientific area of research is Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology. Researcher (1999-2003), Department of Medical Biochemistry, University of Gothenburg, Sweden: “Marie Curie training grant within the Fourth framework programme of the European Commission”. Visiting Scientist (2001), Department of Molecular Biology, Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale Arizona, USA. Visiting Scientist (2003), EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany. Visiting Senior Research Associated in Microscopy (2011-2012), Research Institute of the McGill University of Health, Montreal, Canada. Scientific Manager of the National Centre for Cellular Imaging, CCI, University of Gothenburg, Sweden from 2003 to 2016. Appointed Head of the CCI in 2017. Author to more than forty research articles, learned reviews and book-chapters. Active member of the Steering committee of the European Light Microscopy Initiative (ELMI), since 2003. Member of the of the Steering committee of the Nordic Microscopy Society (SCANDEM), 2018. Member of the Executive Committee of the Core Technology for Life Science (CTLS) from 2016, and Vice-president of the CTLS since January 2018. Swedish Member of the Management Committee of the COST Action CA15124: “A new Network of European BioImage Analysts to advance life science imaging” (2016 to 2020), and also the COST Action CA17121: “Correlated Multimodal Imaging in Life Sciences” (2019-2022).
