Kathryn Bowles

University of Edinburgh, UK
Biography

Kathryn Bowles carried out her PhD at Cardiff University, followed by a postdoctoral position at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, USA. She returned to the UK in 2022 to start her own lab in the UK DRI centre at the University of Edinburgh. Her group is focused on understanding the genetic and mechanistic biology underlying primary tauopathies. The lab is grounded in iPSC approaches, including both 2D and 3D organoid models, to which they apply a combination of functional genomics, biochemical and imaging approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying aberrant MAPT function. Currently, the group has a particular focus on cellular stress, synaptic biology and neuronal-glial interactions.
