Krishna Niyogi
Krishna K. Niyogi is an HHMI Investigator and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at UC-Berkeley, an Investigator at the Innovative Genomics Institute, and a Faculty Scientist in the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His lab studies how photosynthesis is regulated and how it might be improved to help increase food and fuel production and carbon sequestration. He joined the faculty at UC-Berkeley in 1997 after graduate studies at the University of Cambridge and MIT and postdoctoral training at the Carnegie Institution. He has received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, a Searle Scholar Award, the Melvin Calvin Award from the International Society of Photosynthesis Research, the Charles Albert Shull Award from the American Society of Plant Biologists, Fellow of ASPB Award, and he has been elected as a Fellow of AAAS and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He teaches undergraduate courses in General Biology and Algal Biology and a graduate course in Plant and Microbial Photosynthesis.
