Biography

I am Inserm research director at Strasbourg, France. My research career is focused on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms and identifying treatments for ALS. My major contribution in ALS research was the identification of a number of early non-motor symptoms in ALS, in particular weight loss, but also, more recently, sleep defects. I further characterized the role of several neuronal types in motor and non-motor symptoms, such as MCH or serotonin neurons, both in mouse models and patients. In parallel, my lab generated a number of tools, including conditional knock-in mice for Fus ALS and identified recently NUP50 as a novel ALS gene.
