Biography

Maria J. Harrison is the William H. Crocker Professor at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research and she holds an Adjunct Professorship in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Applied Molecular Biology from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UK). She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Academy for Microbiology, and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Her research combines genetics, genomics and cell biology approaches to dissect the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis. The overarching goals are to gain a fundamental understanding of the molecular basis of its development, nutrient transport and regulation.
