Biography
Dr. Masahiro Onji earned his medical degree from Okayama University, Japan, and pursued a Ph.D. under the mentorship of Prof. Kensuke Miyake at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo. His doctoral research focused on uncovering the mechanisms of DNA sensing by the innate immune system.
As a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Josef Penninger at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Austria, Dr. Onji has been investigating how sex and pregnancy hormones rewire epithelial tissues in health and disease. His research has particularly centered on the RANK-RANKL signaling pathway and its role in regulating gut epithelial homeostasis during pregnancy and lactation.
