Biography

Dr. Max A. Seibold is the Wohlberg and Lambert Chair of Pharmacogenomics at National Jewish Health, where he directs the Computational Biology Program and is also a Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The mission of his laboratory is to advance precision medicine approaches to prevent asthma and tailor treatments to distinct patient immunoendotypes. A central focus of his research is defining the gene–environment interactions within epithelial cells that regulate the initiation and progression of asthma and other allergic diseases. His group integrates transcriptomic, single-cell, and spatial omics with analyses of expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) in primary epithelial tissues to determine how genetic variation shapes epithelial responses to environmental exposures such as viral infection and inflammation. To pursue these aims in human cohorts, Dr. Seibold's team has developed minimally invasive methods to collect and analyze airway and skin tissues for molecular profiling and established epithelial stem cell banks to generate patient-specific disease models. Through large-scale NIH-funded cohort studies, including GALA, PRIMERO, HEROS, and LEADS, his work has delineated genetic and environmental programs that underlie disease susceptibility, heterogeneity, and treatment response. Dr. Seibold has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and continues to lead efforts defining the molecular basis of airway and allergic diseases.
