Najoua Lalaoui
Najoua Lalaoui is a Group Leader at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. She completed her PhD with Dr Olivier Micheau at the University of Burgundy, Dijon, France, studying resistance to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. In 2010, she moved to Australia to undertake postdoctoral research with Professor John Silke, working on the TNF regulators RIPK1 and the IAPs.
Her laboratory now focuses on RIPK1 and RIPK3, investigating two opposing functions of these kinases: how they govern cell death plasticity, switching between apoptosis, necroptosis and pyroptosis, and how they act independently of cell death. She applies this fundamental knowledge to inborn errors of cell death, to design new therapeutic strategies for cancer and inflammatory disease and to understanding the impact of inflammatory cell death on cancer immunity and tumour progression.
