Nicole Poulsen

Technical University Dresden, DE
Biography

Nicole Poulsen completed both her Bachelor of Science (1996) and PhD in Botany (2001) at the University of Melbourne, Australia. It was already during her time at the University of Melbourne that she developed an interest in diatom adhesion and motility, under the supervision of Rick Wetherbee. Since 2001, she has worked together with Nils Kröger, initially as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Regensburg, Germany (2001-2004) and then as a Research Scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (2005-2011). Since January 2012, she has been a Senior Scientist at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. Nicole’s research focuses on characterizing the molecular machinery that drives diatom gliding and the molecular basis of diatom silica cell wall formation.
