Rodrigo Gallardo

Senior Scientist, Aelin Therapeutics, BE
Biography

Rodrigo Gallardo graduated from the University of Chili (Chili) where he studied Molecular Biotechnology. He then moved to Brussels (Belgium) and obtained his PhD from the University of Brussels, where he trained in biophysics and structural biology by X-ray crystallography. He later moved to Leuven (Belgium), for a PostDoc position at the Switch Laboratory, working with Prof. Frederic Rousseau and Prof. Joost Schymkowitz in the development of synthetic amyloids and the “Targeted Protein Aggregation” technology, which uses synthetic amyloids to selectively knock-down protein function. Afterwards, to advance the understanding of what amyloids are he moved to Leeds (U.K.) to join the Astbury Centre for Molecular and Structural Biology at the University of Leeds, working with Prof. Sheena Radford and Prof. Neil Ranson on the determination of amyloid structures by cryo-EM. He is now back in Belgium and has joined Aelin Therapeutics to further his work in synthetic amyloids, amyloids interactions and targeted protein aggregation, incorporating a renewed vision of amyloids into the designing principles of synthetic amyloids.
