Scala Choir

Biography

Scala is a unique indie-rock choir led by the Kolacny brothers pianist Steven and conductor Stijn. On stage the brothers are accompanied by 20 singers between 20 and 30 years old. In total the group has more than 150 singers, which allows the group to meet the ever-growing demand for performances.

Scala & Kolacny Brothers, founded in Aarschot (Belgium) in 1996, have been selecting rock and pop songs since 2002 and adapt them entirely in their own style. Initially, the piano was the only accompaniment to the voices. Now they perform all over the world, still with that piano at the center of the stage, but often accompanied by drums, soundscapes and synthesizers, or even with their own Scala rock band.

In 2010, Hollywood director David Fincher used Scala's music in the trailer for his movie "The Social Network". The result of this was the major international and global breakthrough of Scala & Kolacny Brothers in 2011. This resulted in sold-out halls in European countries such as Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Spain, but also the United States, Canada, South Korea… Scala became an international phenomenon, making 2011 a personal highlight for the entire group.

After performing abroad for months, the Kolacny brothers entered the recording studio in 2013 for one of the most ambitious and artistic productions in Scala's existence: the 'Black Moon' album and concert tour. This included original songs, all by Steven Kolacny, well-thought-out choreographies and an amazing light show all magically turned into a mesmerizing performance.

In 2015, exactly 10 years after the release of 'Respire' and 'Grenzenlos' (Scala's debut albums in France and Germany), two brand new albums were released almost simultaneously. The French album 'Et si on était des anges' and the German album 'Unendlich'. Two releases which once again show the group's great commitment towards its local audiences and the strong bond with them.

Today, the group Scala is invited to national and international stages and go on reinventing and improving their own success formula based on the intimate and unique sound of the Scala voices.
