Biography

Prof. Sergio Quezada is Professor of Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy at UCL. He trained in Biochemistry at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and completed his Ph.D. at Dartmouth Medical School. In 2004 he joined Nobel Laureate James Allison's lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering, studying anti-CTLA-4 mechanisms. At UCL, his work spans regulatory T cells, Effector T cell reactivities, the tumour microenvironment, and checkpoint blockade. He holds patents for antibodies against VISTA, ICOS, and CD25, and co-developed a best-in-class Treg-depleting anti-CD25 antibody acquired by Roche in 2018. His research on immune reactivities and clonal neoantigens found Achilles Therapeutics, where he served as Chief Scientific Officer (2020–2025). In 2026 he established the Immune Regulation and Biotherapeutic Design Lab at the Francis Crick Institute, integrating mechanistic immunology with antibody engineering. His honours include Cancer Research UK Senior Fellowships and election as Fellow of the European Academy for Cancer Sciences (2022) and UK Academy of Medical Sciences (2024).
