Silvie Van den Hoecke

Silvie Van den Hoecke obtained her master in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the university of Ghent, after which she started a PhD in the Molecular Virology group of Prof. Xavier Saelens. During her PhD, she investigated the escape routes of influenza viruses to the conserved M2e vaccins, along with its method of action. Driven by her interest in new technologies and passion for science, she joined the Tech Watch team as Life Science Technology Specialist in September 2017. In the Tech Watch team, she is scouting for new technologies to boost research within VIB and assists the scientists to implement these in their research projects. Next to this, she is also part of the Innovation Lab, in which she provides practical assistance in the lab, by providing training, troubleshooting, etc., to further increase the technology uptake within VIB.
