Biography

Steven Vandenabeele holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Ghent University and brings over 25 years of expertise in plant biotechnology. His career spans academic and industrial institutions, including the VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology, Rockefeller University, BASF Plant Science, and Aphea.Bio.

With more than 18 years in the ag-biotech industry, Steven has held leadership roles at BASF Plant Science, where he served as Group Leader in Technology Management and Global Research Manager for the rice yield enhancement program. These roles equipped him with deep experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, complex research pipelines, and innovation-driven processes.

In 2017, Steven co-founded Aphea.Bio NV, a venture capital-backed company focused on developing next-generation agricultural biologicals based on microbial solutions. As Chief Technology Officer, he oversees research and early development, intellectual property strategy, and IT infrastructure.
