Biography

Dr. Trevor Nolan is an NSF Plant Genome Research Program postdoctoral fellow in Philip Benfey's lab at Duke University. He obtained his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 2018 where he worked in Yanhai Yin's lab to study how plants balance brassinosteroid-mediated growth with stress responses. During his postdoc, he pioneered time-series single-cell RNA-seq analysis and used this technology to discover the elongating cortex as an important site for brassinosteroid-induced root cell elongation. He is currently using cutting-edge approaches including single-cell RNA-seq, CRISPR screening, and spatial transcriptomics to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying the spatiotemporal switch between proliferation and differentiation and the subsequent cross-tissue communication responsible for coordinated organ growth in the Arabidopsis root.
