Tzu-Keng Shen

VIB-VUB Center for Structural Biology
Biography

Tzu-Keng Shen is a joint PhD student at VUB/VIB and ULB. His research focuses on redox biology, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) signaling, and persulfidation, particularly in the context of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Following his bachelor's degree in biological science and technology at NYCU, Taiwan. He then moved to Germany to pursue a master's degree at Heidelberg University, joining Tobias Dicks’s lab at German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), gaining expertise in oxidative stress and redox signaling. In his master's thesis, he’s working on a genetically coded biosensor for hydrogen peroxide. After completing his master's, he relocated to Brussels, Belgium to continue his research in redox biology supervised by Joris Meseesns in VUB/VIB and Esteban Gurzob in ULB. He’s awarded the FNRS-ASP grant to support his research. With a strong foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology, he investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying oxidative stress and protein persulfidation, aiming to uncover potential therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases.
