Vincent Timmerman
Vincent Timmerman is full professor at the University of Antwerp (UA). His team, the Peripheral Neuropathy Research Group, identified several gene mutations associated with inherited peripheral neuropathies (mainly Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease). The disease mechanism of gene mutations is studied in neuronal and non-neuronal cell lines, including neurons differentiated from patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). This information is compared to clinical, neurophysiological and neuropathological data; essential for genotype/phenotype correlations. His lab currently develops neuromuscular organoids and assembloids to complement or replace transgenic animal models, and to unravel pathomechanisms and validate therapeutic molecules.
