Wouter Duverger
Wouter holds a bachelor’s degree in Nanobiology from TU Delft and a master’s in Theoretical Physics from Lund University. His experience during a data engineering internship at Johnson and Johnson led him to pursue a PhD at the Switch lab (VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain and Disease Research), headed by Joost Schymkowitz and Frederic Rousseau. Throughout his project, he has worked on a label-free super-resolution infrared spectroscopy method to study the structure of protein aggregates in situ and on a high-content screen to identify novel heterotypic interaction partners that contribute to Tau pathology in Alzheimer’s disease. So far, this work has led to two first-author papers, three co-authored publications, and one international collaboration.
Beyond the lab, he engages in science communication, speaking at Pint of Science 2024 and working as a guide at the Vattenhallen science museum and the MAX IV synchrotron. He also serves as a PhD representative at the KU Leuven Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and co-organised a symposium on Diversity in Science in collaboration with VIB. In his personal time, he enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and playing ultimate frisbee.
