Elizabeth Duke

Liz Duke is Team Leader for X-ray Imaging at EMBL Hamburg. She joined EMBL Hamburg in May 2021 from Diamond Light Source. Liz has spent her career developing synchrotron based X-ray methods for biological applications. She started out in structural biology instrumentation development including building multiple beamlines before moving to imaging. She contributed to the development of cryo soft X-ray tomography at Diamond Light Source before the opportunity to develop hard X-ray imaging of soft biological tissue in Hamburg came along. Since being in Hamburg Liz and her team have established HiTT (High Throughput Tomography) on EMBL Beamline P14 on Petra and X-ray imaging is now offered alongside macromolecular crystallography as one of EMBL Hamburg’s User Facilities.
