Renzo Mancuso

VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology, BE
Biography

Renzo Mancuso is a young group leader at the VIB–UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology in Belgium. Ever since earning his PhD in Barcelona in 2014, he has focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal degeneration. His focal point is the role of inflammatory networks and microglia, a type of immune cell in the brain. His research employs various techniques and technologies, including classical mouse models, iPSC, and cutting-edge humanized mouse systems. Through his work, Renzo aims to determine how genetics alter microglial function and contribute to the initiation and perpetuation of brain disease. Renzo has received several young investigator awards, including the Grand Prix by the French Alzheimer’s Foundation (ARUK), for his innovative contributions to our understanding of microglial pathogenic mechanisms. In 2023, he received an ERC Starting grant to study human microglia-neuron interactions in Alzheimer’s disease.
