New Horizons in Alzheimer's Disease (Hybrid edition) was packed with leading scientists in the AD field, one of them being our very own Bart De Strooper. Professor De Strooper was co-organizer this meeting and spoke in depth on the cellular phase of Alzheimer’s disease. 

Bioinformatics has quickly become an integral part of life sciences research by enabling innovative computational approaches in an increasingly data-dense environment. Inspired by the sold-out editions in 2016, 2018, and 2020, VIB is organizing the fourth edition of Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences to highlight recent developments in bioinformatics research, and to showcase its impact in medical, agricultural, and biotechnological research.

It has been a tremendous pleasure to welcome 421 attendees (181 online and 240 in-person) in Leuven this week for two days of engaging science at New Horizons in Alzheimer’s Disease.

On 22-24 September 2021 the 4th edition of Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology took place. 21 academics and 12 industry speakers showcased their latest – sometimes unpublished - work, which makes for a total of 33 experts in the field that attended this once again fantastic meeting.

On September 15-17, the VIB-KU Leuven Laboratory of Ion Channel Research organized for the 4th time an international meeting in Leuven, devoted to the superfamily of Transient Receptor potential (TRP) channels. The organization of the 4th edition was a bumpy road - originally scheduled for September 2020, COVID-19 forced us to postpone the meeting with one year.

We're glad to announce on World Alzheimer's Day that Roger M Nitsch, inventor of aducanumab, the first FDA approved #Alzheimer drug, will give a lecture in Kinepolis Leuven on 27 October.

VIB-VUB Center for Structural Biology remains one of the world-leading places for Nanobody® research and, as such, it is the perfect location for the second Nanobodies conference.

A year ago, the first edition of the Tumor Heterogeneity, Plasticity and Therapy conference, was planned in Leuven. As the global pandemic intervened, the conference was postponed to 2021 and switched to a virtual format. While a completely online conference comes with its challenges, this first edition was definitely a success. The impressive line-up of speakers and the diverse program attracted 420 attendees, who contributed to the interactive atmosphere together with speakers, sponsors and organizers.
