Biography

Agnete Kirkeby is associate professor at University of Copenhagen in Denmark and at Lund University in Sweden. Her group has a unique expertise in generating specific subtypes of human neurons from stem cells as transplantation therapy for brain diseases. Together with collaborators from Lund University, University of Cambridge and Novo Nordisk, Dr. Kirkeby and collaborators have developed a stem cell-based dopamine cell product for treatment of Parkinson’s Disease (STEM-PD), which was approved by regulatory authorities in Sweden in 2022 for entering clinical trial for treatment of individuals moderate Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Kirkeby and her group further works on the preclinical development of stem cell therapies for treatment of dementia symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease as well as on using stem cells for modelling Parkinson’s Disease pathology in the dish for development of novel disease-modifying therapies.
