Anne Muia

Anne Muia works with the National Biosafety Authority in Kenya as a Senior Biosafety Officer. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and is a PhD candidate in Biotechnology. As a Biosafety Officer she’s working to ensure and assure safe development, transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms. She works in the Biosafety Risk Evaluation Department where she’s involved in carrying out risk assessment of GMO applications, trainings and development of policy documents. As a scholar she’s interested in the use of modern tools in Molecular Biology to overcome constraints to sustainable food production in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has previously worked in research at KEMRI-CDC and at BecA-ILRI Hub. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, observing nature and learning new things.
