Biography

Dr. Brian Brown is the Director of the Icahn Genomics Institute (IGI) and Associate Director of the Precision Immunology Institute (PrIISM) at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is an immunologist, trained in gene therapy and genetic engineering. Dr. Brown invented microRNA-based targeting which is used for tailoring the cell expression of DNA and RNA therapeutics, and is being used in drugs undergoing clinical trials, and he invented the degenerate adapter technology used for small RNA sequencing. A main focus of his research is on identifying the genes that control tumor immunity. He’s developed technologies to aid this effort including Perturb-map, for spatially resolving CRISPR screens in tissue by multiplex imaging.
