Christoph Klose

Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, DE
Biography

Christoph Klose studied Molecular Medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the same institution in 2007. After a post-doctoral training at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, he established an independent Emmy-Noether research group at the Department of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Several discoveries he made contributed to our understanding of innate lymphoid lineage commitment and their development, establishing innate lymphoid cells as innate mirror images of T cells with which they share lineage-specifying transcription factors and effector molecules. Additional work has identified alarmins and neuronal factors as important regulators of group 2 innate lymphoid cells and type 2 immune responses. The research in his lab is focused on dissecting innate lymphoid cells' functions in tissues and understanding how the immune system and nervous system interact.

His work on Innate lymphoid cells was recognized with the Robert-Koch post-doctoral Immunology award in 2015. In addition, since 2020, he has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher (Clarivate Analytics). An ERC starting grant and the Emmy-Noether program of the German Research Foundation fund the research in his lab.
