Biography

Engi Ahmed is a lead clinical assistant at the University Hospitals of Montpellier (France) in charge of the chronic airway diseases expert center, headed by Professor Arnaud Bourdin. She has a scientific clinical background in chronic airway diseases including severe asthma, COPD, pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung diseases.

She completed her BSc degree at Paris Diderot VII and PhD degree at Montpellier University at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy, working on human models of COPD (i.e., airway epithelium and smooth muscle) and environmental exposures.

She works on modeling airway development using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) differentiated into airway epithelium in 2D air liquid interfaces.

A focus is the understanding of the paediatric roots of COPD by modeling the impact of chronic cigarette smoke exposure during human lung development.
