Enrica Bordignon

Ruhr University Bochum, DE
Biography

Enrica Bordignon is an expert in EPR Spectroscopy applied to membrane proteins. In 2000 she obtained a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Padova (Italy), then moved as post doc in the group of Prof. Steinhoff at the University of Osnabrück (Germany) and later to ETH Zurich in the group of Prof. Jeschke as senior post doc. In 2013 she became professor for biophysics at the FU Berlin and since 2016 she leads the EPR group at the Ruhr University Bochum. She investigates with site-directed spin labeling EPR the dynamics and conformational changes of membrane proteins, and in particular of apoptotic proteins and ABC transporters. Together with her collaborator Prof. Seeger (University of Zurich), she pioneered the use of spin-labeled nanobodies as conformational reporters of membrane proteins in cells (Galazzo et al., PNAS 2020).
