Ive De Smet

VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology, BE
Biography

Dr. Ive De Smet is a VIB/UGent Investigator. He did a PhD in Biotechnology at UGent (Belgium) and was a BBSRC David Phillips Research Fellow at Nottingham University (UK). He is internationally recognized for his work on asymmetric cell divison, lateral root architecture, peptide-receptor kinase signalling, and more recently also for his work on high temperature signalling and phosphoproteomics. At VIB, he leads the Functional Phosphoproteomics group, mainly focusing on early signalling during abiotic stress. His team recently discovered the role of a MAP4K in temperature signalling and a link with brassinosteroids. In addition, Ive De Smet is an engaged science communicator, bringing fundamental research to the general public (e.g. through #ArtGenetics).
