Jeffrey Moffitt

Harvard University, US
Biography

Jeff Moffitt received his PhD in Physics from the University of California Berkeley, where, under the guidance of Dr. Carlos Bustamante, he build an optical tweezers capable of following angstrom-scale movements of molecular machines in real time and used this instrument to uncover the mechanism by which the phi29 bacteriophage packages its genome into a preformed capsid. He studied as a Helen Hay Whitney postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Xiaowei Zhuang at Harvard University, where he co-developed MERFISH, a massive multiplexed form of single-RNA-molecule imaging. Jeff started his independent laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2018, where he and his team continue to develop advanced forms of omics-scale microscopy and use these techniques to understand the spatial organization of the interface between microbiome and host. Jeff is a Pew Biomedical Fellow.
