Katharina Zimmermann

I'm a Physiologist and Head of the Nociception and Thermosensation Research Group at the Department of Anesthesiology of Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) in Erlangen. I'm a physician and have worked in Anesthesiology prior to obtaining my doctoral title in Physiology. Following postdoctoral studies with Peter Reeh at the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology (at FAU) and with David Clapham at the Children's Hospital at Harvard Medical School in the areas of Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels and Transient Receptor Potential ion channels, I returned to the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology to specialize in Physiology (Habilitation). In 2013 I was awarded a Heisenberg-Professorship to intensify my research in the area of ion channels, thermoreception and pain with modern imaging and molecular biology tools.
