Biography
Dr. Patrick Callaerts is head of the laboratory of Behavioral and Developmental Genetics and chair of the department of Human Genetics at Leuven University (KU Leuven). He did his PhD in Biology at KU Leuven. Following a postdoc at the Biozentrum in Basel, Switzerland, he joined the faculty of the department of Biology and Biochemistry at University of Houston in Texas, USA. In 2004 he moved to Belgium to set up his research group in Leuven. The research in his laboratory focuses on hormonal regulation of metabolism and the role of interorgan communication in metabolic homeostasis using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, the aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum and the honey bee Apis mellifera as models.
