Earlier this year, VIB Conferences launched a new concept under the name VIB Science Events, to share its expertise and tools that have been developed and help put together scientific events initiated by experts from the centers. During the fall of 2018 VIB Conferences supported 3 Science Events.

On 26-27 Nov, over 220 scientists of which 50% from abroad gathered in Leuven for the second edition of Metabolism in Cancer and Stromal Cells.

Every quarter a VIB Conferences newsletter goes out to over 6,000 contacts. The newsletter includes highlights of the conferences program, and a fun section that is conference or science related. The latest edition included a cartoon from Hilde Bastian about scientific abstracts.

We wanted to let you know that the abstract deadline of 15 Dec 2018 is almost here for the VIB conference Type 2 Immunity in Homeostasis and Disease organized in cooperation with Cell Press on 21-22 February 2019, which will take place in the picturesque medieval city of Bruges, Belgium.

We would like to remind you about the final registration deadline for the International Meeting on Optical Biosensors, which is October 31st.

Type 2 inflammation rich in eosinophils, basophils and mast cells and orchestrated by Th2 lymphocytes has been mainly studied in the context of allergies and immune responses to helminths. Since the discovery of type 2 innate lymphoid cells there has been a strong interest in understanding how type 2 immunity is induced and regulated, for example by barrier epithelial cells.

On November 26-27, 2018 the second edition of the VIB conference 'Metabolism in Cancer and Stromal Cells' will take place at the Jubileumzaal in Leuven. The line-up includes top speakers such as Erika Pearce, Karen Vousden, Matthew Vander Heiden and Susan Kaech.

The 2nd edition of Structural Dynamics in Cellular Communication took place last week in Brussels. Several speakers presented cutting edge data and showcased where this exciting field is heading. The meeting coincided with the official opening of the new VIB-VUB facility for Bio Electron Cryogenic Microscopy in Brussels.
