Biography

Dr. Antentor Hinton, Jr. is a tenure-track Assistant Professor within Vanderbilt University’s Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics located within the Vanderbilt University

(VU) School of Medicine. In addition to being a member of the Vanderbilt Diabetes Research and Training Center, he is also an Ernest E. Just Early Career Investigator. Dedicated to unraveling the intricate molecular mechanisms governing insulin-mediated cristae dynamics, Dr. Hinton's research endeavors are generously funded by the United Negro College Fund/Bristol Myers Squibb, Burroughs Wellcome Fund through Career Awards at the Scientific Interface (CASI), and an NIH SRP, a small project awards for pilot research, from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Pride to Increase Diversity among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research. For his innovative research on mitochondrial networks in human disease that utilizes focused ion beam scanning electron microscope and serial block face scanning electron microscope imaging, Dr. Hinton recently received the esteemed Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Science Diversity Leadership Award.

Dr. Hinton's dedication to advancing scientific knowledge extends to his active participation in the Endocrine Society, where he contributes his expertise on science, mentoring, diversity, equity, and inclusion to the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and the Scientific Statements Subcommittee. His commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity within the scientific community is further evidenced by his significant involvement on the following six journals’ editorial boards: Circulation Research, Aging Cell, American Journal of Physiology–Heart and Circulatory Physiology, Journal of Cell Physiology, Frontiers in Physiology, and Advanced Biology.
