Marina Romero-Ramos

Aarhus University, DK
Biography

Marina Romero-Ramos obtained her PhD in the University of Sevilla (Spain) and thereafter she did two postdoctoral projects one in UCLA (USA) and a second one as a Marie Curie fellow in Lund Univ (Sweden). In 2006 she funded the CNS Disease Modeling Group at Aarhus Univ (Denmark). Her lab works on understanding the different aspects of a-synuclein induced toxicity in Parkinson’s disease. They have been investigating early changes in a-synuclein induced neurodegeneration and during the last decade they have put a big effort to characterize the immune response and its role in the disease progression with relation to a-synuclein. During the last 5 years her lab has implemented those studies in samples from patients with a-synucleinopathies. MRR’s data suggest that the immune response in Parkinson's involves both brain and periphery, innate and adaptive immune cells: in a response that is dynamic and differs between sexes.
