Biography

Menna Clatworthy read Medicine at Cardiff University, UK, completed her professional training in nephrology at Cambridge, and undertook a PhD at the University of Cambridge investigating antibody effector function in autoimmunity and infection. She was awarded the British Renal Association Raine Award and the Academy of Medical Sciences/Medical Research Society Young Investigator Award for this work. She subsequently completed a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Fellowship at Cambridge and the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA, gaining expertise in advanced imaging techniques in Ron Germain’s lab. She is currently the Professor of Translational Immunology at the University of Cambridge. She also works clinically as an Honorary Consultant Nephrologist, managing immunosuppression regimens of patients with organ transplants and autoimmune disease. She holds an Associate Faculty position in Cellular Genetics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and is a fellow and director of studies at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, mentoring clinical medical students. Her work in teaching and mentoring has been recognized by a number of awards, including Outstanding Mentor Award, NIH-OxCam PhD Scholars Programme (2018) and Pilkington Prize for outstanding contribution to teaching, University of Cambridge (2017), and her scientific achievements recognized by election to the Academy of Medical Sciences (2020), the Learned Society of Wales (2020) and the European Molecular Biology Organization (2022).
